My Ironman journey began in August 2011 when I participated in my first ever triathlon. You can read this blog on how I transitioned into triathlon after spending 8 years in rowing. To summarise, I was looking for a new and exciting challenge and was introduced to triathlon. I was already into running and cycling as part my cross-training from rowing but was a weak swimmer. After my first Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run), I aspired to complete an Ironman Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42km run). My source of motivation was to attain the title of the Youngest Gibraltarian to complete an Ironman.
It was an 8 month journey with many memorable moments and great learning experiences. There were times when I felt like giving up and questioned why I am putting myself through this torture. When race day approached and I dragged myself over the finish line, I could not describe the emotions running through me. Knowing that I had finally obtained my goal was an achievement that I will forever be proud of.
I have to thank my family and friends who supported me through this incredible journey and I would not have been able to have achieved my goal without them. THANK YOU!
